About us

Our History

1977

NeighbourLink was founded by Dr. Virgil Gulker, a social worker and outreach director in Holland Michigan,
as a way to encourage churches to become more engaged with the poor and to inspire a greater number of
Christians to put their faith in action.

It was clear to Dr. Gulker that if churches were to better serve their communities, they needed leadership, organization, training, encouragement, and prayer.  He developed the Love INC model to fill these critical roles.

This “grass roots” approach of involving Christian volunteers to help their neighbours has expanded rapidly to
involve thousands of churches from over 50 denominations in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Becoming A Member Church

Our office opened in December 1993.

NeighbourLink Sarnia-Lambton is owned and governed by its participating
member churches through a Board of Directors.

Are you interested in becoming
a NeighbourLink church?

We would love to come speak to you about joining the network of Christian
churches within the Sarnia-Lambton area.

By joining, you are helping to meet the needs of our neighbours in a real and practical ways.
Together we are making a difference in someone’s life.

Member churches provide most of NeighbourLink’s operating fund.

For as little as $ 3-5 per member family per year, (ex. 10 member families @ $5/family = $50 per year pledge), you can cover your church’s portion of helping with the cost to meet the needs of our neighbours throughout Sarnia-Lambton.  This also gives local churches a central accessment base location.

Wrapped In Warmth

This program started in February 2020 to meet the needs of our community.
Volunteers pack reusable bags with a warm blanket, a pair of warm gloves, a scarf,
hand/feet warmers, a pair of warm socks, a toque, a reusable mug, a tarp and a few other small items.

This is accomplished with the assistance of local company sponsors,  local volunteers
and distribution centres within Sarnia.
We are calling this annual act of love and hope “WRAPPED in WARMTH”

100+ bags per year, are given to local homeless shelters and directly to those living in the streets in the Sarnia area.
NeighbourLink is hoping, through our Helping Hands Walk-a-thon and sponsorship of goods,
to do the same this year and the years to follow.

Neighbours helping Neighbours
to keep those in need in the city warm during the cold nights on the streets of Sarnia.

The need each year is even greater then the previous – Together we can bring hope to those in need.
If you would like to donate/sponsor the purchase of above listed items
